Racquel De Loyola

Racquel de Loyola was born on February 18th 1980. She is an artist based in the Philippines actively engaged into performance art practice since early 2000. During the early to mid 2000 she was one of the key initiator and part of an open loose network New World Disorder. She is a former lead vocalist for the Manila based folk rock world music band Talahib which was established in 2000. A Darmasiswa Scholar in Jogyakarta Indonesia in 2002 for Gamelan/Karawitan Studies at Institute Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta. A performance collaboration with New World Disoder at the Laokoon festival in Kampnagel Hamburg Germany in year 2004. Actively participated performance art festivals and artist exchange programs locally and abroad, Asia meet Asia in Tokyo Japan in 2002 and 2005, the Currency Festival in New York 2005, Asiatopia05 and the South East Asian Performance Symposium in Bangkok Thailand in 2005. A shortlisted artist for the Ateneo Art Awards in 2007. Racquel de Loyola was a recipient of the CCP 13 Artists Awards in 2009 and a former grantee of the Asian Cultural Council New York in 2013. One of the participating artist for the Triumph of Philippine Art Exhibition at the George Seagal Gallery Montclair University New Jersey USA and USC Fisher Museum Los Angeles California 2013 and the Ayala Museum in 2014. Presented a collaboration project together with her daughter Kayumanggi, an inastallation piece in titled “Traces,Encompassing Time and Space” for the group exhibition Transpersonal Instructions at the UP Vargas Museum in 2018. Her works primarily addresses the issues of women, identity, colonization, migration, displacement, capitalism and globalization. She continues exploring on crossing established discipline through music and movement, performance,painting, mixed media work, installation and most recently expanding her crafts with soft fabric sculpture.
